2024 AHL All-Star Classic: Western Conference All-Stars Shine in San Jose
SAN JOSE, CA - The Western Conference All-Stars stole the show at the 2024 AHL All-Star Classic Skills Competition Sunday night in San Jose, defeating the Eastern Conference All-Stars 18-13.
Brandt Clarke (Ontario Reign) became just the fifth-ever AHL All-Star to go four-for-four in the Accuracy Shooting event while also securing a point for the West All-Stars in a one-vs-one with his older brother Graeme (Utica Comets) in the puck control relay.
Riley Tufte (Colorado) edged out Dylan McIlrath (Hershey) by one tenth of a mile per hour, winning the hardest shot competition with a 100.2 mph slap shot.
Ethen Frank (Hershey) won the fastest skater event for the second straight year, with his 13.032 second time around the rink now sitting second all-time in AHL history behind his 2023 record-setting 12.915 time.
Goaltenders Jet Greaves (Cleveland) and Jesper Wallstedt (Iowa) shared the honor of top goalie on the night as both tied for the fewest total goals allowed in the Rapid Fire, Pass & Score, Breakaway Relay events.
Inclement weather in the San Jose area in the form of heavy rain and wind caused seven players (Abbotsford's Arshdeep Bains, Belleville's Angus Crookshank, Charlotte's Lucas Carlsson, Providence's Georgii Merkulov, Rochester's Jiri Kulich & Isak Rosen and host city San Jose's Shakir Mukhamadullin) to miss the event while several other All-Stars from Hershey, Syracuse and Toronto arrived to the hotel hosting the league's 2024 event just in time to catch the shuttle to TechCU Arena for the All-Stars red carpet walk-in.
Crookshank hopped on the ice midway through the Skills Competition, while Mukhamadullin gave the home crowd a jolt when he appeared on the ice during the final event of the night and scored as the final shooter of the breakaway relay to conclude the on-ice festivities.
The other players who missed Sunday night's Skills Competition are expected to arrive in time to participate in Monday's All-Star Challenge - a 3-on-3 tournament with the players split into their respective divisions (Atlantic, North, Central & Pacific)
