AHL Expands Their Public Stat-Tracking For 2019-20?

INSIDE AHL HOCKEY HQ -- The American Hockey League's President/CEO David Andrews hinted at it in his annual state of the league address in late January, but all signs point to the AHL's website taking a major step forward this season in terms of their live, on-the-fly game updates if this past weekend's preseason game summaries on the league's website are any indication of what's to come.

The league's boxscores in preseason have plenty of new additions, including a shot location map (pictured above) as well as a play-by-play of the action with general info like shots, penalties and goals in addition to their usual game-scoring summaries. Another new addition appears include stats on head-to-head matchups too.

While the NHL has a "game center" of sorts on their website, the AHL seems to be taking a step further with the shot map, which allows you multiple options to choose from -separating or including the 1st, 2nd and 3rd period shots and goals to choosing to show only shots that resulted in goals. These new tools seem similar to what independent stat-trackers are using to give added detail to player evaluation.

All we need now in the AHL is time on ice!
