Frost Preparing For Whatever Comes Next

It wasn't Morgan Frost's first zoom call when he spoke to media earlier this week. He popped into the conference call under the alias 'Notorious'.

Perhaps Frost is plotting a second career on the side?

"I played poker online with my buddies and we all zoom when we play," Frost laughed, explaining his user name to various media present for the chat. "I just made my name 'Notorious'. "It's fine."

While he's disappointed the American Hockey League (AHL) season has been cancelled and he won't finish the final 14 games of his rookie season with the Lehigh Valley Phantoms, Frost is ahead of the curve in terms of putting the free time - and his connections - to good use to jump start off-ice training in hopes of landing on an expanded Philadelphia Flyers roster if/when the NHL's Return To Play format is finalized and approved by the league and the players' association.

"I'm actually kind of lucky where I am, my mom is a personal trainer so I've kind of had access to her gym the whole time," Frost told InsideAHLHockey.com on Tuesday. "At the start [of the pandemic] when I wasn't really leaving the house at all she brought some equipment home. She's been great with helping me," Frost said, adding that he's been in contact with his personal trainer from back home.

"So that's all been nice, I've been preparing."

Frost explained that with the regular season nearly finished, he eased into his off-ice training with an emphasis on stretching and allowing the soreness that comes with a season of pro hockey to alleviate before getting into a more regular and focused workout routine.

Especially when it comes to heading into next season, Frost says he wants to add some upper body strength and continue to work on "little things that everyone works at" listing examples like getting faster, and wanting to work on stick handling.

"I want to probably add a little more velocity to my shots, so just a bunch of stuff like that. Pretty generic."

The only thing Frost hasn't been able to do during hockey's pause is get on the ice and resume skating.

"This is probably the longest stretch in my life I can think of being off the ice," Frost said of the last two-plus months. "So that's been tough, but yeah just trying to stay prepared in case anything happens."

Frost is one of several players that finished the 2019-20 season on the Phantoms' roster that could be a prime candidate to join the NHL club on an expanded roster, and he certainly doesn't think lightly of the potential.

"It would be an honor to get the call to the Flyers to be with them on their playoff run."
