Game 58 Recap: Comeback Kids - Phantoms Erase 5-1 Deficit In Win Over Hershey

ALLENTOWN - The Lehigh Valley Phantoms have had the Hershey Bears' number this season, especially on home at the PPL Center as the Phantoms had won all five home matchups with the Bears while also boasting an 8-2 overall record against Hershey this season  entering Friday night's game.

In the opening period, it looked like the Bears were well on their way - tallying five first period goals to take a 5-1 lead into the second period.

John Muse was pulled after allowing four goals on 10 shots in the opening 14:01 of the contest, though tough to place sole blame on the Phantoms' netminder as there were turnovers galore and tons of sloppy play from the guys in front of the goalie through much of the opening 20 minutes.

In today's day and age, no lead is safe in hockey.

Yes...

The Phantoms came all the way back and completed the comeback late in the third period when Nicolas Aube-Kubel buried a rebound for his second of the contest to put the Phantoms ahead 7-6 with 6:59 left in regulation.

The reunited trio of Aube-Kubel, Danick Martel and Mike Vecchione led the way. Aube-Kubel (two goals, one assist), Martel (one goal, two assists) and Vecchione (one goal) used their speed to catch the Bears in transition often in the final 40 minutes.

Lehigh Valley hosts Binghamton Saturday before finishing the 12-game regular season series with Hershey on Sunday at Giant Center.
