GAME STORY

1st Period

Entering Friday night's contest, the Phantoms were 0-for-11 with the man advantage on the young season - certainly an area the team was looking to improve on this weekend.

In the opening 20 minutes, the Phantoms' special teams went to work to the tune of a perfect 3-for-3 on the power play to take a 3-0 lead into the first intermission.

First, it was Phil Myers getting a puck from the center point to the right-wing wall for German Rubtsov. Rubtsov looked shot, but fed a hard centering pass for Mikhail Vorobyev to re-direct past Devils goaltender Gilles Senn to put the Phantoms on the board at the 4:35 mark with their first power play tally of the season.

Later in the period, on their next man advantage, Morgan Frost took a puck from the right-wing wall and got it down low to Andy Andreoff. The veteran quickly shuffled the puck to the slot where rookie Joel Farabee was able to beat Senn with a quick shot to extend the Phantoms' lead to 2-0 with 5:41 left in the period. It marked Farabee's third goal in as many games with the Phantoms this season.

After a Binghamton too many men penalty gave the Phantoms a third power play chance in the period, Lehigh Valley made it 3-0 on - from start to finish - a play where everyone made a difference.

It started with Cal O'Reilly winning an offensive zone face-off. Phil Myers and O'Reilly went tape to tape up top before O'Reilly went from left point to right-wing wall for Morgan Frost on a one-touch to the slot for an easy tap-in for Andreoff. Tic. Tac. Toe.

2nd Period

After all the excitement in the first period, things settled down in the middle frame as the two teams managed a combined () shots in the second 20-minute stanza.

It seemed at times like the puck was bouncing and making consecutive passes hard to successfuly complete.

Morgan Frost continued to be noticeable, as he was still setting up his linemates for scoring chances. The most notable one came off of David Kase's stick after Frost threaded the needle on a cross-ice attempt.

Joel Farabee was also very impressive looking to these eyes, as he nearly set up Nicolas Aube-Kubel for his first of the season on a nice scoring chance early in the period. Aube-Kubel's shot hit the crossbar.

All in all, an uneventful middle frame allowed Lehigh Valley to take the 3-0 lead to the third period.

Third Period

The Phantoms controlled the puck most of the final frame, adding a fourth goal late in the period to extend their lead to 4-0. Frost picked up his third assist on the play, getting a puck to Tyler Wotherspoon before the Phantoms defender's shot to the net was re-directed in by Andreoff for his second of the contest.

A pair of late Phantoms' penalties allowed Binghamton to spoil Alex Lyon's shutout bid, as Ben Street got the Devils on the board with a 5-on-3 power play goal with 41.8 seconds left to complete the 4-1 final score.
