Game Story: W-B/Scranton - 2 at Hershey - 1 (OT) 10/29/22
Wilkes-Barre/Scranton PenguinsHERSHEY, Pa. - It wasn't the prettiest of games, but the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins (6-0-1) managed to find a way to win in Hershey Saturday night to extend their winning streak to six games.
After Sonny Milano gave Hershey a 1-0 lead in the first period, Corey Andonovski evened things at 1-1 before the two teams headed to the first intermission. Then, the game went scoreless into the final 90 seconds of overtime before the Penguins got a game-winning tally from Filip Hallander to secure the two points.
It was a bit of a goaltender's duel between Penguins' netminder Filip Lindberg (26 saves - 27 shots) and the Bears' Hunter Shepard. Both goalies made ten-bell glove saves with the game on the line, with Lindberg stoning Milano midway through the third and Shepard robbing Tyler Sikura on a 2-on-1 pass across on a play that Shepard appeared to be down and out on.
There wasn't much of a pace to play in the opening minutes as several whistles disrupted the flow of the game.
Hershey opened the scoring after a great pass from Garrett Pilon set up Sonny Milano in the high-slot. Milano made no mistake, wiring one to the top shelf for his second goal in the AHL this season.
Late in the opening period, the Penguins tied it up after a great effort from Corey Andonovski to stick with a loose puck heading toward the net - fighting off multiple Bears' defenders before getting a stick on it to direct the puck in past Shepard with 2:36 left before the first intermission.
Penguins Post-Game EXTRA!
Head coach JD Forrest
"Road games are tough. ... But again, just our guys - their ability to stick [with] it. That's the main theme here. We've been able to stay disciplined throughout whatever length of time we needed to and come out on top. So anytime we come in here and win - it's not easy to win in this building, they have a good team - it's nice, it feels good."
Forward Corey Andonovski
"Obviously, we have a good thing going right now, we just want to stick to our plan. And regardless of whether it's a rival or just anybody else, just want to keep doing what we're doing. So obviously it feels pretty good."
