Hershey Bears: The Good, The Bad & The Ugly From Games 3 and 4 of 76

HERSHEY, Pennsylvania -- After a disappointing opening weekend, the Hershey Bears (2-1-1) put together two solid wins against their Atlantic Division rivals in Lehigh Valley (4-3 OT win Saturday) and at home against Wilkes-Barre/Scranton (5-1 win Sunday) - looking like another team in the division that can do some damage this year if everything goes their way.

Reinforcements from Washington paid big dividends for Hershey this weekend, as Travis Boyd (four goals, two assists) dominated the weekend and rookie defender Martin Fehervary tallied his first career AHL goal to help lead the way for the Bears.

The Good

The special teams were indeed special this weekend. Hershey was 2-for-6 in Lehigh Valley Saturday night with goals from Travis Boyd and Mike Sgarbossa and 3-for-3 on the PK with a short-handed goal from Beck Malenstyn. Saturday night against Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, the Bears went 2-for-5 on the PP with goals from Boyd and Matt Moulson. They were 4-for-5 on the PK with a short-handed goal from Martin Fehervary. It was the rookie’s first professional goal.

The Bad

The Bad News for the rest of the Atlantic Division is that Travis Boyd is back in Hershey. In two games this weekend, Boyd tallied two goals and an assist in back-to-back games against Lehigh Valley Saturday night, and then at home in Giant Center Sunday against Wilkes-Barre/Scranton.

The Ugly

Is there such a thing as having too much depth? Hershey’s scratches tonight included Connor Hobbs, Shane Gersich, Chris McCarthy, Tobias Geisser, Kale Kessy, and Bobby Nardella. With the arrival of Christian Djoos, Boyd, Alex Alexeyev, Pheonix Copley, and Fehervary, the Bears definitely look quite a bit different than expected, and that’s both a good and bad at the same time for Spencer Carbery.
