Julie Beidler Joins Inside AHL Hockey
***Editor's Note: Julie joins the Inside AHL Hockey staff as another dual threat reporter/photographer that will be expanding our coverage of the American Hockey League (AHL). ***
My name is Julie Beidler, and I am pleased to introduce myself as the newest member of Inside AHL Hockey. I will be providing coverage of the Hershey Bears this season along with assisting with all things Atlantic Division, arguably the toughest division in the AHL.
Living just outside Hershey, PA, I have been fortunate to be able to combine my love of sports with my full-time job of teaching at a local, public high school and part-time job of sports reporting. While still a student at Lebanon Valley College, I got my first reporting opportunity from The Lebanon Daily News covering high school sports. Fast forward a few years and the opportunity arose to start covering the Hershey Bears.
While the local newspapers do not fully cover the Bears anymore, we have gotten pretty creative with our coverage by utilizing Adobe Spark to provide weekly recaps.
In the past three years, I’ve provided a multi-media approach to covering the Bears complete with game day photos, interviews, game and weekly recaps as well as prospect reports and covering special events such as Hockey in Heels and Pink the Rink. As a correspondent for LDN, I was honored last season to present the Dan Sernoffsky Memorial Award to Christian Djoos.
I’ve enjoyed the opportunity to meet some great prospects in the past and wanted to find an opportunity to continue providing some coverage for LDN, but I also wanted a chance to branch out in a more creative manner to bring readers insight into what life is like for an AHL prospect from the players’ perspectives.
That’s where Tony and Inside AHL Hockey come in. One of the main reasons I chose Inside AHL Hockey is because of the focus on the development of players who may one day play in the NHL, not primarily focusing on the guys who are there now. I think the ability to show fans what our players are like off the ice is just as important as what they do on it. I look forward to providing a human-side to hockey with the help of some pretty terrific guys who love what they do.
