Monday's Catch Up & Links 9/4/17

Editor's Note: Monday means it's time to start the work week, but also time to check in to make sure you haven't missed anything in the hockey world, and specifically our AHL content here at Inside AHL Hockey. Our weekly Monday links will be free to all readers!

We've made it to September, which means rookie camps and prospect games are right around the corner. Main NHL training camps aren't too far off on the horizon either.

Everything is starting to get going again, and Inside AHL Hockey is just starting to fire it up and get in gear for coverage of the American Hockey League (AHL) this 2017-18 season.

Weekly Top Stories

The biggest news over the weekend was related to Inside AHL Hockey's website here, and our plans moving forward as the season approaches. We began to roll out the pre-registration on Friday in advance of the paywall being activated on the site, and you can find all of that information in the Subscribe tab of this site - either located along the top of your web browser or in a drop-down tabbed menu on mobile friendly devices located in the upper right hand corner.

Simply put, a full-year subscription for $36 dollars (roughly 69 cents a week) made via a one-time PayPal payment gives the reader full access to all of  Inside AHL Hockey's articles, content, features & more on our website as well as any perks/promotions announced in the future.

As of right now, this includes an extra month free for October 2018. There will be more incentives, and those already signed up before the paywall goes active later this month will receive all the fringe benefits of being a full-year subscriber.

Readers can partake in a one-month trial for September via our Patreon page with a minimum pledge of $3 if uncertain about committing to a full-year subscription to buy yourself some time to make an informed decision about having dedicated in-depth coverage of the AHL this season and beyond.

We've laid the groundwork at Inside AHL Hockey in August as the site launched and we showed a bit of a preview of things to come.

In terms of the free articles available to all readers, these are the stories that scratch the surface of what Inside AHL Hockey is all about. Monday's Links, Tuesday's Talk and Thursday's Thoughts are all going to be a part of our free content and are meant to engage the reader with topics and news from around the AHL with links to our premium content - exclusive news scoops, original features, prospect reports/updates and so much more.

The weekly Friday feature is just the beginning of what Inside AHL Hockey has to offer to its premium members, or subscribers to the site.

This isn't a one or two person project. Inside AHL Hockey currently has five dedicated professionals working together to provide original in-depth reporting, writing and photography. The plan is to continue to expand, but you can check out who's going to be covering what in the Our Team section.

I'll be wearing multiple hats this season, continuing to provide the most complete coverage of the Lehigh Valley Phantoms and top Flyers prospects while also extending my coverage to include more updates on nearby rivals Hershey, Wilkes-Barre/Scranton and Binghamton as well as player features of various AHL Eastern Conference players throughout the 2017-18 season.

Nina Weiss will be our lead photographer this season. While her focus will be shooting Phantoms practices, games, etc she will also be getting plenty of shots of the Phantoms' opponents this season as well.

The plan is to bring on another photographer or two before the season starts to help our visual content outside of the AHL's Eastern Conference and Phantoms-related content.

Tim Riday will be assisting me on the Phantoms beat to allow for more game coverage and more content on the weekends when Lehigh Valley plays a majority of their games. He'll also be producing regular updates on Philadelphia Flyers' prospects in the system away from the pro ranks.

Sean Shapiro will be providing regular content featuring AHL Western Conference teams, players, etc. to help further expand our brand to include more coverage of prospects across North America. Again, the plan is to continue expanding our staff to be able to provide even more consistent content spread throughout the league.

Kyle Phillippi is going to serve as a Phantoms' feature writer while also catching up with newly called up Phantoms players in the NHL with the Flyers this season.

Again, we gave readers a preview of what to expect as Inside AHL Hockey transitions to the subscription model.

I featured Flyers prospect Radel Fazleev in a 'Prospect Profile' piece two weeks ago. Kyle had this profile on Nicolas Aube-Kubel.

On a broader AHL view, I took a look at the busy offseason in the AHL for coaches around the league as there will be eight new head coaches in 2017-18.

Get your questions answered every week with Tuesday's Talk. You can send your questions on Twitter, Facebook, email or even in the comments of this or any story on our website. Here's what the Tuesday Talk 8/15/17 feature churned up. Three weeks ago, there was talk about the Olympics and eligibility of AHL players.
