Phantoms' Nagle Named To Team USA's 2022 Olympic Roster
Lehigh Valley PhantomsALLENTOWN, Pa. - The Lehigh Valley Phantoms have an Olympian in their locker room.
On Thursday evening, the announcement came and the roster revealed of the men's USA Hockey roster for the 2022 Olympic Games. Among the 25 players listed is none other than Phantoms' goaltender Pat Nagle, who will be heading to Beijing and representing Team USA next month.
"It's something you think about when you're a younger kid," Nagle is quoted as having said in the team's press release Thursday evening. "And obviously fortunate with the situation of the NHL players not going this season and the opportunity arose. I was pretty lucky to be picked and I'm very excited for the opportunity."
Nagle has been a journeyman goaltender who has carved out quite a career battling primarily in the ECHL, where he has 340 career appearances and is one of the league's all-time wins leaders.
This season on an AHL contract with the Phantoms, Nagle's arrival - with Samuel Ersson injured and a combination of Felix Sandstrom and Kirill Ustimenko in Philadelphia on the taxi squad - came at a time of great need for a Phantoms team that was struggling out of the gates and produced just three wins in their opening 19 games.
Nagle has been a part of the team's revival, as he owns a 5-0-3 record with the Phantoms this season to go along with a 2.74 goals-against average and .897 save percentage.
"My wife and I FaceTime'd my parents and they were awfully excited," Nagle said upon learning he had been selected for the team. "It was pretty neat. You almost don't realize how big it is until you start seeing other people's reactions. That was pretty special. They've been there from Day One."
Nagle won't be the only player with ties to the Flyers' organization heading to the Olympics to represent Team USA as prospect forward Noah Cates was also named to the 2022 roster. In addition, former Phantoms forward Andy Miele is also going to be at the Beijing Games next month wearing the red, white and blue.
