WILKES-BARRE, Pa. - Fresh off their Friday night shutout win over Lehigh Valley in preseason action, the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins were back on the ice Saturday morning at Toyota SportsPlex with too many players for a single group, so it was split into two sessions I'll refer to as the ECHL/Extras group and the Main Group.

News, Notes & Observations

Plenty of roster news came after AHL Penguins practice wrapped up this afternoon, including their own camp cuts.

Goaltender Filip Lindberg and forward Sam Poulin were assigned to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, trimming Pittsburgh's camp roster to 24 players.

You can probably pencil Poulin in the middle between Filip Hallander and Valtteri Puustinen and adjust the AHL bottom six as necessary.

They also placed defenseman Mark Friedman on waivers. If he clears Sunday at 2pm ET, he would be eligible to join the AHL Penguins.

The Calgary Flames, who claimed Radim Zohorna from Pittsburgh, placed him back on waivers Saturday afternoon. The Penguins can now re-claim Zohorna and assign him directly to the AHL if no other team puts a claim in on him.

Of note for today at the Toyota SportsPlex, it was Tommy Nappier and Ryan Bednard as the goalies with the extras and Taylor Gauthier and Dustin Tokarski with the main group.

With Lindberg assigned to AHL roster, it's going to be crowded in net with five goalies in camp. Interesting decisions loom for player placement between WBS and ECHL Wheeling to start the season.

Jonathan Gruden skated with the main group in a red no-contact jersey.
