Texas Stars Schedule Breakdown: 2019-20 AHL Regular Season Schedule Released

CEDAR PARK, Texas -- On Wednesday afternoon, the American Hockey League released the schedule for the 2019-20 regular season.

The Texas Stars open their 11th season in Cedar Park with an Opening Weekend back-to-back against the Tucson Roadrunners on Friday, October 4 (7:00pm) and the Manitoba Moose on Saturday, October 5 (7:00pm).

The AHL went the way of more divisional play, but also announced the addition of a slight inter-conference schedule. For the first time ever, the Stars will face the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins and Colorado Eagles, but will only play two other teams outside of the Central Division (Tucson and the Toronto Marlies).

Of the Stars’ 38 home games, 28 of them fall on a Friday or Saturday night, with two played on Sunday afternoons. For the first time since 2011-12, Texas concludes their regular season schedule away from home, when they travel southward to San Antonio to face the Rampage on Saturday, April 11.

Texas takes on their aforementioned Interstate-35 rivals 12 times (down from 14 matches in each of the last two seasons). The Stars face their other Central Division opponents eight times each.

The Stars’ longest road trip extends across nine days and features five games — against the Rockford IceHogs, Grand Rapids Griffins, and Milwaukee Admirals — from February 4 to February 12.

An important side note: the Stars host just four Friday night home games during the Texas high school football season, which is often a concern for local fans in Cedar Park and surrounding areas; October 4, October 18, November 1, and December 13.

A full promotional schedule of ticket specials and theme nights for home games this season, and the Stars’ preseason schedule (which is traditionally a home-and-home with San Antonio), will be announced at a later date.

Let’s take a look at how the schedule comes together for the Stars, who hope to qualify for the postseason again after failing to do so last season.
