Tough Luck Injuries Continue For Myers
ALLENTOWN - Just when things were beginning to look up for Lehigh Valley Phantoms defenseman Phil Myers, an unfortunate injury in practice during the week left the first year defender in a walking boot up in the press box Friday night as the Phantoms hosted the Providence Bruins.
Head coach Scott Gordon offered no update on Myers' status moving forward other than to confirm he's injured, but the outlook isn't promising with Myers hobbling around in a boot. On the season, Myers has tallied five goals and added 16 assists in 50 games to go along with a plus 12 rating.
Myers had appeared in all of the Phantoms' previous 19 games, with his last game missed being back on February 9th at home against Hershey, and was receiving rave reviews from the coaching staff for his play in the past few weeks. He missed significant time in the beginning of the season, but returned and was starting to get into a groove in his rookie season before the injury.
The suspected loss of Myers for the time being leaves the Phantoms' defense with just six healthy bodies including the recently added David Drake, who signed an amateur tryout (ATO) earlier this week following the completion of his senior season at the University of Connecticut.
James de Haas was injured in the first period of Friday night's against Providence and did not return.
In other injury news, defenseman Sam Morin - out since January 20th - is skating on his own but hasn't joined the team for practice just yet. The hope is that Morin will be able to return for a game or two before the postseason.
